The drive

Bunya Mountains Road crosses the Bunya Mountains from Kaimkillenbun, on the Dalby side, to Kumbia on the Bunya Highway. It runs 66 km (41 mi) and goes through Bunya Mountains National Park, passing Dandabah, the main camping and visitor area on the mountain.

The two sides are different. The southern climb, from Moola up to the mountains, is steep and narrow with tight curves. The northern side, down toward Kumbia by Alice Creek, is less demanding.

Queensland Parks says the access roads are steep, narrow and winding, and that Transport and Main Roads considers them unsuitable for long or heavy vehicles. Caravans, large motorhomes and large buses are named as unsuitable.
