Carve vs RevRoutes

For scenic drives, car clubs and group drives · Checked November 2026

Carve (carve.run) is a scenic-drive planner and turn-by-turn navigation app for cars and motorcycles, on iPhone with CarPlay and Android with Android Auto — the RevRoutes alternative with offline turn-by-turn, CarPlay and Android Auto, and your whole group on one map.

The short answer. RevRoutes and Carve both start from the same idea: the road is the point. RevRoutes leans into the car scene, with curated drives, car meets and badges, and logs your drives automatically. Carve goes further on the drive itself: routes you can share with one link and open on iPhone, Android or the web, navigation that sticks to the roads you chose, and with Apex, every turn downloaded for roads with no signal, your whole group on the map, and CarPlay and Android Auto. RevRoutes' App Store listing doesn't mention offline maps, CarPlay, Android Auto, an Android app or group drives.

Where Carve pulls ahead

When RevRoutes is the better pick

If finding car meets and Cars & Coffee is what you're after, RevRoutes has them on its map, with a Car Week hub. It also runs on older iPhones (iOS 16.4 and later; Carve needs iOS 26). And if you want every drive logged automatically, even the ones you navigate in Google Maps or Waze, RevRoutes does that in the background; Carve follows your location in the background only during a drive or recording you start in it.

Questions

Is Carve a good RevRoutes alternative?

Yes, especially for group drives and roads with no signal. Both have curated driving roads and turn-by-turn navigation. Carve adds one-link sharing on iPhone, Android and the web, imports from GPX, Ride with GPS and Google Maps, and with Apex, offline turn-by-turn, Group, CarPlay and Android Auto.

Does RevRoutes work offline or with CarPlay?

RevRoutes' App Store listing doesn't mention offline maps, CarPlay or Android Auto. Carve has all three with Apex: each route downloads with its map and every turn, and your route shows on the car's screen.

Is there an Android version?

RevRoutes' listing is for iPhone (it also runs on Apple-silicon Macs and Vision Pro); an Android app isn't listed. Carve is on iPhone and Android, with route planning on the web.

Which is better for a group drive or car club run?

Carve. Share one link and everyone opens the same route on iPhone or Android, and your later edits reach them; with Group, everyone driving it shows on the map and the car's screen by name. RevRoutes' listing doesn't mention route sharing or group drives.

Does Carve log my drives automatically?

No. Carve records a drive when you start a recording, and follows your location in the background only during a drive or recording you start in it. RevRoutes can log drives in the background while you navigate with another app.

How do the prices compare?

Carve is free to plan, share and drive with a signal, with no limit on saved routes; Carve Apex is $29.99 a year with a 7-day free trial, or $4.99 a month. RevRoutes is free with one garage car and 3 saved drives a month; RevRoutes Pro is $39.99 a year or $4.99 monthly, after a free 7-day trial.
