US-83: Leakey to Concan
US 83, Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway · Leakey → Concan
The drive
US 83 follows the Frio River canyon south from Leakey, the seat of Real County, to Concan in easy bends between limestone bluffs and cypress-lined river crossings. It is a short, relaxed drive in the western Hill Country.
About nine or ten miles south of Leakey, the entrance to Garner State Park is on the highway, on the Frio River. The park has camping, cabins and river swimming, and on summer evenings it plays jukebox music for dancing at its concession building. Concan, in Uvalde County, is where the drive ends.
US 83 continues south to Uvalde, and RM 1050 to Utopia is a separate drive.
