Pine Island: Matlacha to Bokeelia
Pine Island Road · Cape Coral → Bokeelia
The drive
Pine Island Road runs west from Cape Coral over the Matlacha drawbridge and through the brightly painted fishing village of Matlacha. It crosses Little Pine Island, then Stringfellow Road turns north across Pine Island to Bokeelia at the island's tip, through mangroves and quiet old Florida.
Hurricane Ian damaged the Little Pine Island Bridge, which was rebuilt with two lanes. Lee County has resurfaced Pine Island Road between Matlacha and Little Pine Island, working at night, to make the road more resistant to erosion and washout. It is a direct evacuation route. There are no tolls.
