The drive

This drive crosses the central mountains from Cayey to Coamo, 20.3 miles in about 50 minutes. It begins on PR-1 at the edge of Cayey and follows the Ruta Panorámica on PR-7722, PR-722 and PR-7718 west to Aibonito. PR-7722 is a short Ruta Panorámica segment that runs from Cayey to Aibonito, and it joins PR-722 in the Robles area.

From Aibonito the route drops down PR-14, the old Carretera Central, to Coamo. PR-14 follows the course of the historic Carretera Central, which existed under that name from 1886, and outside the cities it is a two-lane country road. The climb is about 3,400 feet in total and the highest point is near 2,600 feet. The bends are tight and nearly continuous, and local traffic is part of the drive.

It ends in Coamo, a town known for its historic bridges.
