Drives New York The Adirondacks and the North Country
Highways 29A and 10: Caroga Lake
NY 29A, NY 10 · Gloversville → Highway 8
The drive
This drive climbs out of Gloversville, once the center of American glove making, and into the southern Adirondacks by the lakes. Highway 29A runs northwest past Mud Lake and Peck Lake, crosses the Blue Line into the Adirondack Park, and passes East Caroga Lake before becoming the main street of the hamlet of Caroga Lake, on the shore of West Caroga Lake.
From there, Highways 29A and 10 run together past the Nick Stoner Golf Course and along the eastern shore of Canada Lake, then split near Pine Lake. Highway 10 carries on north alone, running right between the two Stoner Lakes, which only the road separates, and then follows the West Branch of the Sacandaga River through the forest of Hamilton County.
It ends at Highway 8 in Arietta, just south of Piseco Lake.
