The drive

Kyogle Road runs 65 km (40 mi) west from Murwillumbah in the Tweed Valley to Kyogle on the Richmond River. It loops around the base of the Tweed volcanic caldera, with views of Wollumbin (Mount Warning) and the caldera's escarpment.

The first village is Uki, where the restored Uki Buttery now houses an arts and crafts community. Past Uki the road climbs and bends through the Border Ranges foothills to the rainforest village of Cawongla, then drops toward Kyogle, a rural town surrounded by forest. The curves are mostly moderate, with two tighter stretches near the Murwillumbah end, and the drive climbs about 3,900 feet in all.

Wollumbin National Park has rainforest boardwalks near the start, and the Border Ranges are reached by side roads off Kyogle Road.
