Gold Coast-Springbrook Road
Gold Coast Springbrook Road, Springbrook Road · Mudgeeraba → Springbrook
The drive
Gold Coast-Springbrook Road runs 25 km (16 mi) from Mudgeeraba, on the Gold Coast hinterland, up onto the Springbrook Plateau. It climbs steadily in tight curves through forest. Springbrook Road, the upper part, was built to a steep gradient of 1 in 12 and in places 1 in 10.
Two curved timber bridges on Springbrook Road carry a single lane each, with a give-way sign on the approach and signs warning that they are not suitable for large vehicles. One section is one-way. Purling Brook Falls, which Lonely Planet describes as a drop of about 106 m, is just off Springbrook Road.
The road is steep and prone to landslips, and repair work under stop/slow traffic control is common after heavy rain. Transport and Main Roads posts current works on its project page.

Good to know

- The two timber bridges are single-lane and not suitable for large vehicles, so give way as signed.
- Check QLDTraffic or the TMR project page before you go, because works and wet weather change what is open.
Open all year, weather permitting. Roads close for snow, fire, storms and repairs: before you set off, check TMR: Gold Coast-Springbrook Road reconstruction works.
