The drive
Carbon Canyon Road is the part of Highway 142 that crosses the Chino Hills between Brea and Chino Hills. The drive starts in Brea and heads east through Carbon Canyon Regional Park and the community of Olinda, then crosses into the Sleepy Hollow area of Chino Hills and ends where the road becomes Chino Hills Parkway.
The canyon road winds, with three tighter stretches among the gentler bends. Carbon Canyon Regional Park has a grove of coastal redwoods, a hike of about a mile from the trailhead. Highway 142 is a popular shortcut from Brea and north Orange County to the Inland Empire, so the road is busy at commute hours.
