Drives Texas Big Bend and West Texas
US-90: Amistad to Langtry
US 90 · Amistad Reservoir → Langtry
The drive
This stretch of US 90 crosses the Lower Pecos canyon country between Del Rio and Langtry. It starts near Amistad Reservoir, the big lake where the Rio Grande, the Devils River and the Pecos meet, and crosses the reservoir on long bridges before heading west across open, dry country cut by canyons.
Past Comstock you reach Seminole Canyon State Park, known for its ancient rock art, and then the Pecos River High Bridge. Finished in 1957, it carries US 90 273 feet above the river, the highest highway bridge in Texas, over a gorge with sheer canyon walls.
The drive ends at the Langtry turnoff. Langtry is the tiny town where Judge Roy Bean held court as the "Law West of the Pecos," and TxDOT's Judge Roy Bean Visitor Center there is the reason most people stop.
