Drives Texas Dallas–Fort Worth and North Texas
FM 4: Santo to Palo Pinto
FM 4 · Santo → Palo Pinto
The drive
FM 4 is a long farm road across North Texas, and its best-known stretch is this one: north from Santo through Lone Camp to Palo Pinto, the county seat. It's a narrow ranch road with almost no shoulders, climbing into the cedar-covered hills of the Palo Pinto Mountains.
The road is gentle at first, and the twisty part comes in the last few miles into Palo Pinto, where it winds through the hills before ending near US 180 on the west side of town. From there US 180 leads west toward Highway 16 and Possum Kingdom Lake.
Along the way
- Santo
- Palo Pinto (US-180)
Good to know
- There are almost no shoulders and few pullouts.
- Watch for gravel shed into the corners by trucks.
