Akamina Parkway
Waterton Lakes, Alberta · Waterton Park → Cameron Lake
The drive
The Akamina Parkway climbs 16 km from the Waterton townsite up the Cameron Valley to Cameron Lake. The September 2017 Kenow wildfire badly damaged the parkway and valley, and Parks Canada has since repaved the road, added guardrails and signs, and removed hazard trees and loose rock. This drive covers 8.7 miles in about 35 minutes, sweeping with one twisty stretch.
Cameron Lake has a day use area with interpretive exhibits, open washrooms and a 1.6 km trail along the western shore. You may see bighorn sheep, moose and mule deer on the way.
