Drives Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates Ras Al Khaimah and the Hajar Mountains
Jebel Jais Road
Jais Road · Wadi Bih junction → Top of Jais Road
The drive
Jais Road climbs the Hajar Mountains from the Wadi Bih junction in Ras Al Khaimah, 32 km (20 mi) of smooth paved road with sweeping corners and sharp hairpins. It rises to about 1,600 m (5,200 ft), and the curves run for most of the way and the climb is steady.
Near the top the public road reaches the Jais Viewing Deck Park, which has seven platforms looking over the road and valleys, and the base of Jais Flight, the zipline. The 1484 by Puro restaurant is also up here. The drive ends at the top of Jais Road near the Adventure Centre. The zipline, the Sky Tour and the restaurant are private attractions, not part of the road. It is cooler at the top, so a jacket helps.
Along the way
- Wadi Bih junction (Jais Road)
- Jais Flight and 1484 viewpoint
- Top of Jais Road (Adventure Centre)
Good to know
- The mountain closes for the hot summer months and reopens when the weather cools, so confirm it is open before driving up.
- A barrier on the road can close it at short notice after rain.
- Casual visitors have needed a Viewing Deck Park ticket, while guests with a zipline or restaurant booking did not; rules for each season can change.
- Check tyres and brakes, avoid hard braking on the way down, and be back down the mountain before dark.
Mountain closed for summer heat and development works; reopening expected about early November, no date announced. Roads close for snow, fire, storms and repairs: before you set off, check Visit Jebel Jais.
