The drive

PR-10 is the highway that links Ponce on the south coast with Arecibo on the north, and this short drive covers 11.1 miles of it from Utuado south to Adjuntas through the Cordillera Central. Forested hills, steady bends and some steep drops fill the drive. The road climbs and falls about 3,300 feet in all, reaching roughly 1,700 feet.

The new PR-10 was long unfinished between Adjuntas and Utuado. Where it stops, drivers have used the older road, which was signed PR-10 until construction of the new highway began in 1974 and was then renumbered PR-123. The drive follows the new road, then the old alignment, then short links into Adjuntas. The old road follows the terrain closely, which makes it winding.

It is a short, constantly turning drive with local traffic. Adjuntas, where it ends, lies in the Cordillera Central.
