The drive

The Niagara Parkway follows the Canadian side of the Niagara River, and Winston Churchill, after driving it during the Second World War, called it the prettiest Sunday afternoon drive in the world. This drive runs south from Niagara-on-the-Lake past Queenston Heights, Sir Adam Beck and the Niagara Glen to the Horseshoe Falls, then on through Chippawa and Black Creek to Fort Erie.

The road is managed mostly by the Niagara Parks Commission, which began building the modern parkway in 1908; it was completed in 1931. North of the falls it passes Brock's Monument at Queenston Heights. Past Chippawa the road quiets down along the upper river.

The 29.2 miles take about 1 hr 10 min, and the speeds are low, with the Niagara River Recreation Trail alongside most of the way.
