The drive

Letchworth Park Road runs the length of the west rim of the Genesee River gorge in Letchworth State Park. The river drops over three major waterfalls here, and the cliffs rise as high as 600 feet in places.

This drive starts at the Portageville entrance, the south end, where the Glen Iris Inn and the Middle and Upper Falls are. It then follows Park Road north along the rim, past Inspiration Point, and leaves through the Mount Morris entrance. The route has two twisty stretches.

The road is slow by design, with overlooks, trailheads and picnic areas along it. It is a pleasant half hour without stops, and most visitors take much longer.
