Mengler Hill Road: Tanunda to Angaston
Mengler Hill Road, Basedow Road · Tanunda → Angaston
The drive
Mengler Hill Road is the short climb over the Barossa Range between two wine towns. It leaves Tanunda on the valley floor, rises past Mengler Hill and its lookout, and drops into Angaston: 14 km (9 mi) in about 15 minutes. The curves are mostly gentle, with one tighter stretch on the climb.
The lookout on Mengler Hill is a popular viewpoint over the Barossa Valley. The Barossa Sculpture Park sits at its base; it was created at the first Barossa International Sculpture Symposium in 1988, with sculptures cut from local marble and granite. The hill is named after an early wine grower. For a flat run through the vineyards, Barossa Valley Way follows the valley floor.
