The drive
MD 36 down Georges Creek is a two-lane road that follows the creek and the Georges Creek Railway through a narrow valley. Leaving Frostburg, the road goes through Midland, makes a sharp curve, and reaches Lonaconing, where it narrows and becomes Main Street, passing the early 19th-century Lonaconing Iron Furnace.
It bypasses Barton by climbing the hillside, then drops back to the valley and ends in Westernport at the WV 46 bridge.
The state designates MD 36 as part of the Coal Heritage Scenic Byway.
