The drive

This drive heads south from Ligonier on PA 711, joins PA 381 at Normalville and carries on through Mill Run to Ohiopyle and Farmington, where PA 381 meets US 40. PA 381 passes just east of Fallingwater, the house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway is listed as a tourist route on PA 381.

Fallingwater's visitor gate is on Mill Run Road in Mill Run. Tours are ticketed, the site is closed on Wednesdays and it is cashless.

In Ohiopyle the road becomes Main Street and crosses the Youghiogheny River. Ohiopyle State Park covers about 20,500 acres and calls itself the gateway to the Laurel Highlands. The Youghiogheny gorge offers some of the best whitewater boating in the eastern United States.
