Elk Island Parkway
Range Road 202A, Range Road 203 · Highway 16 → North boundary
The drive
The Elk Island Parkway runs north from Highway 16 through Elk Island National Park, about 48 km from Edmonton's city centre. It is a 10.4-mile, sweeping drive that takes about 20 minutes, passes Astotin Lake, and ends at the park's north boundary.
Bison are the reason many people come, and they often linger on the road. Parks Canada says bison are hard to spot at night, and to be especially watchful at dawn and dusk. The speed limit is 60 km/h on the main parkway and 20 km/h in the Astotin Lake Recreation Area.
