Highway 24: Torrey to Hanksville
UT 24 · Torrey → Hanksville
The drive
Highway 24 runs east from Torrey, where Highway 12 meets it, through the heart of Capitol Reef National Park. The road follows the Fremont River past the cliffs of the Waterpocket Fold, goes by the Fruita area and the Behunin Cabin, and then leaves the park to cross grey badlands to Hanksville. It is 46.5 miles and about 55 minutes.
The curves are gentle and the climb is small, so this is an easy drive that you can stretch out with stops. There is no fee to drive through on Highway 24 itself. The park's paved Scenic Drive, which branches off at Fruita, is a separate road with its own fee.
Hanksville is also where Highway 95, the Bicentennial Highway, begins.
