The drive

Moss Vale Road climbs the Cambewarra Range for 18 km (11 mi) from Bomaderry to Kangaroo Valley. It gains about 2,000 feet on tight bends and switchbacks up the range, then makes a long descent into the valley, finishing in the village.

Kangaroo Valley lies among the Southern Highlands mountains, about 24 km north of Nowra. It was logged for red cedar, then farmed for dairy and butter, and tourism is now the main income, with shops and cafes in the village. Its Hampden Bridge, completed in 1898, is a suspension bridge.

The road is winding with limited overtaking. Landslips in 2022 damaged Moss Vale Road on Cambewarra Mountain.
