US 98: Carrabelle to Mexico Beach
US 98 · Carrabelle → Mexico Beach
The drive
US 98 along the Forgotten Coast is a flat, open two-lane that keeps water beside the road for much of its 57.5 miles. It starts in Carrabelle on St. George Sound and runs west past Eastpoint, then crosses the bridge into the old oyster town of Apalachicola on Apalachicola Bay.
From there it carries on through Port St. Joe to Mexico Beach on the Gulf. It's driven west from Carrabelle, the end nearer Tallahassee. There are no real climbs and no tight bends, so the pleasure is the pace: fishing towns, marsh and bay views, and long straight miles.
