Miccosukee Road
Red Hills, Florida · Tallahassee → Miccosukee
The drive
Miccosukee Road is one of Tallahassee's nine official canopy roads. It runs northeast from Capital Circle to the village of Miccosukee, with a nearly nine-mile continuous stretch under old live oaks hung with Spanish moss.
It began as a Native American footpath to the village of Miccosukee, which British surveyors noted in 1767, and by the 1850s Leon County plantation owners hauled cotton along it. The road is two lanes and close to the trees, with some gentle rises. Centerville Road, another canopy road, also ends at Miccosukee and makes a good way back.
