The drive
Mount Scott Road is a short climb inside the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. It leaves Medicine Park on Highway 49, enters the refuge, and then takes the Mount Scott road up to the summit: 4.8 miles, about 10 minutes, and 1,100 feet of climb to a high point of 2,300 feet. The last miles have three twisty stretches.
The refuge is home to bison, Texas longhorn and Rocky Mountain elk. Animals are most active in early morning and late evening, and the road dead-ends at the summit, so you come back down the same way.
