The drive

Highway 155 crosses the Greenhorn Mountains between the ranch town of Glennville and the Kern River Valley. From Glennville the road, signed Evans Road, climbs east through oak and then pine on a very winding, steep line that follows the contours of the slopes, to Greenhorn Summit at 6,102 feet, by Greenhorn Mountain County Park.

Over the top it drops through the small mountain community of Alta Sierra and twists down the east face of the range to Wofford Heights, on the shore of Lake Isabella, ending just short of Wofford Heights Boulevard. The descent loses close to 3,500 feet. From Wofford Heights, Highway 155 follows the lake's west shore south to Lake Isabella town and Highway 178, the way back to Bakersfield through the Kern River Canyon.
