Point Nepean Road: Dromana to Portsea
Point Nepean Road, B110, Melbourne Road · Dromana → Portsea
The drive
Point Nepean Road follows the Port Phillip Bay side of the Mornington Peninsula, from Dromana through Rosebud, Rye and Blairgowrie to Sorrento and on to Portsea. It is 24.6 km (15 mi) of two-lane road through a string of seaside towns, with the bay close on one side for much of the way.
This is a drive for the towns and the water rather than for tight bends. The road is gentle and mostly easy, and it takes about 35 minutes without stops. The road itself is old: it began in the 1850s as a rough track linking Melbourne's southern farms with the bay settlements and the military posts at Point Nepean, and it was declared a Main Road in 1913.
It ends at Portsea, at the tip of the peninsula. Point Nepean National Park, with its quarantine station and old fortifications, lies just beyond.

Good to know
- The road runs through town centres at Rosebud, Rye, Blairgowrie and Sorrento, so expect lower speed limits, pedestrians and parked cars.
- Roadworks and events can slow the route, so check VicTraffic before a long weekend.
