The drive
US 89 climbs from Logan up Logan Canyon, between limestone cliffs, past Ricks Spring and Beaver Mountain to a summit at 7,800 feet. Then it winds down switchbacks to Bear Lake at Garden City, with the lake appearing below. It is 36.6 miles and about 50 minutes, with two twisty stretches.
The Bear Lake Overlook is near the end. This direction puts the turquoise lake ahead of you on the descent.
The canyon is open all year.

Good to know
- UDOT is installing fiber optic conduit along US 89 in the canyon, with one-way traffic through work zones and intermittent lane closures around mileposts 462 to 465 and 467 to 473.
- Utility and paving work can bring uneven pavement and one-way traffic; check UDOT's project page before you go.
- Allow extra time, since the project asks drivers to plan for delays.
Open all year, weather permitting. Roads close for snow, fire, storms and repairs: before you set off, check UDOT: Logan Canyon fiber project.
