Evans Notch: Route 113
ME 113, Gilead Road · Gilead → Stow
The drive
Evans Notch is a mountain pass in the White Mountains, about a mile east of the New Hampshire border, at 1,410 feet. Maine Route 113 crosses it, and this drive runs south from US 2 at Gilead to Stow.
The notch drains north through Evans Brook, a tributary of the Wild River. Route 113 itself is unusual: it repeatedly enters and leaves New Hampshire, and a few miles past Hastings Campground it enters Chatham, NH, where the signs follow New Hampshire's style but the road remains Maine 113.
The drive is 16.9 miles and takes about 25 minutes, with mostly gentle curves.
