US-60: Superior to Globe
US 60, Ray Road · Superior → Globe
The drive
US 60 heads east out of Superior, where it meets SR 177, and climbs through Queen Creek Canyon to the Queen Creek Tunnel. The tunnel opened in 1952 as a modern bypass of an older, rough tunnel. Beyond it the highway turns northeast through the copper towns of Miami and Claypool, then south into Globe.
This is a working road. It is a two-lane highway with steady bends and climbs, and the mines mean trucks are part of the traffic. The drive ends at Globe, where US 60 meets Euclid Avenue, at the edge of town. US 60 continues east beyond it.
The drive is 22.9 miles and takes about 31 minutes, with 3,760 feet of climb along the way.
