Drives Arizona Phoenix and Central Arizona
Apache Trail: AZ-88
Apache Trail · Apache Junction → Tortilla Flat
The drive
The Apache Trail is AZ 88 east of Apache Junction. It starts below the Superstition Mountains and Lost Dutchman State Park, then winds through rock and saguaro above Canyon Lake to the old stage stop at Tortilla Flat. It's short, but it's one of the most scenic roads near Phoenix, and the bends are steady and tight in places.
This drive ends at Tortilla Flat. The pavement runs out a few miles beyond, and the road past it is dirt, so it isn't part of this route.
Along the way

Good to know
- Weekends are busy, with plenty of cyclists and slow traffic.
