Route 113: Squam Lake
NH 113, NH 25, Squam Lake Road · Holderness → Center Sandwich
The drive
NH 113 begins in Holderness at an intersection with US 3 and NH 25, where it splits from the Daniel Webster Highway. That highway follows Squam Lake's southern shore, while NH 113 goes around the west and north sides of the lake.
Squam is the second-largest lake located entirely in New Hampshire, at 6,791 acres. The 1981 film On Golden Pond was shot on the lake, and tour boats based in Holderness point out filming locations. Common loons nest on Squam, and summer is the best time to see them in breeding plumage. After the lake, NH 113 enters Sandwich and meets the northern end of NH 109 in Center Sandwich, where this 11.2-mile drive ends.
