The drive

The Schoodic Loop Road circles the Schoodic Peninsula, the part of Acadia National Park on the mainland. It is a one-way loop of about six miles, so there is only one direction to drive it, and it passes Frazer Point, a picnic area just inside the park entrance with seacoast views.

The best stop is Schoodic Point, a windswept, rocky point reached by a short spur on Arey Cove Road, with views toward Mount Desert Island. Turnouts along the loop look out on lobster boats, gulls and forested islands.

This drive runs from the Winter Harbor end to Birch Harbor, and the speed limit is 35 mph unless posted.
