Route 15: Blue Hill to Stonington
ME 15, ME 175, Little Deer Isle Road · Blue Hill → Stonington
The drive
Route 15 runs south from Blue Hill down the peninsula and out onto Deer Isle, ending at Stonington. The drive crosses the 1,000-foot suspension bridge over Eggemoggin Reach, built in 1939, then follows the stone S-curve bridge from Little Deer Isle to Deer Isle proper.
From there the road runs on through Deer Isle village, which has the Pilgrim's Inn, the Red Dot Gallery and the Deer Isle Artists Association, and ends at Stonington. The town sits on an exceptionally picturesque harbor at the southern tip of the island, and it's still a historic working harbor.
Curves here are gentle and the grades are rolling, so the drive takes about 35 minutes for 23 miles.
