The drive

The Lasseter Highway is the road to Uluru. It leaves the Stuart Highway at Erldunda and runs 242 km (150 mi) west across red desert, past Curtin Springs to Yulara, the resort town just before Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. The road is sealed and nearly straight, the bends are slight, and the distances are what you notice.

The highway is named for Harold Lasseter, who claimed to have found a rich gold reef west of Kata Tjuta. Luritja Road, the way north to Kings Canyon, leaves it part way along. The drive ends at Yulara, and the park gate lies beyond.
