The drive

Highway 9N is the road up the west side of Lake George. This drive starts in Bolton Landing and heads north along the edge of Northwest Bay, an inlet cut off from the main lake by a big, mountainous peninsula, with the water through the trees beside you.

About 2 miles on, the bay ends and the road curves east through a pass in the mountains, then comes back down to Lake George at Sabbath Day Point in Hague. It follows the shore north through Silver Bay and Hague, where Highway 8 heads west, for a few more miles of lake views.

Then it leaves the lake and climbs over the hills into Essex County, dropping through a valley into Ticonderoga, where it meets Highways 22 and 74 northwest of the village center. Fort Ticonderoga and the north end of Lake George are close by.
