Drives Florida Jacksonville, Gainesville and North Florida
Highway 24 to Cedar Key
SR 24 · Otter Creek → Cedar Key
The drive
SR 24 runs southwest from US 19 at Otter Creek through pine flatwoods and the community of Rosewood, then out over salt marsh and island bridges between the Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge and Waccasassa Bay Preserve State Park. It ends in the old fishing town of Cedar Key, where the road becomes D Street.
The road is straight, flat and quiet, and the reason to drive it is the marsh and the islands at the end. In Rosewood a state historical marker on SR 24 tells of the 1923 massacre that destroyed the Black community there; the former town site is mostly private land, so the marker is the place to stop.
