Snake River Canyon: US-26/89
US 26, US 89 · Hoback Junction → Alpine Junction
The drive
US 26/89 runs from Hoback Junction down the Snake River Canyon to Alpine, following the river downstream. At Alpine the Snake meets the Greys and Salt rivers at Palisades Reservoir on the Wyoming and Idaho border.
The canyon is a popular whitewater rafting destination, and rafting outfitters work out of Alpine. The road is mostly gentle at 22.4 miles and about 25 minutes, but it follows the river's bends between steep walls.
