Wallaman Falls Road
Wallaman Falls Road, Abergowrie Road, Stone River Road · Trebonne → Wallaman Falls Road
The drive
Wallaman Falls Road is the way up from Ingham up to one of the great waterfalls of Girringun National Park. The drive starts on Abergowrie Road at Trebonne, about 10 km from Ingham, and runs 38 km (24 mi) west, climbing the Seaview Range onto the plateau. The road changes names on the way, from Abergowrie Road to Stone River Road, Venables Crossing Road and Lannercost Extension Road, before it becomes Wallaman Falls Road.
Most of the 2,900 feet of climbing comes on the range, where the sealed road is steep and winds in sections. The drive stops about 3.5 km short of the falls car park, so the final run to the lookout is not part of it. Wallaman Falls is Australia's tallest permanent single-drop waterfall. The road is a dead end, so you return the way you came.
Along the way
- Trebonne (Abergowrie Road)
- Wallaman Falls Road (short of the falls)
Good to know
- The road is sealed bitumen and suits ordinary cars, but care is needed on the range, which is slippery when wet.
- Queensland Parks does not recommend towing caravans on this road, and the range is steep and winding in places.
- Landslips on the range are repaired from time to time, staged to keep the road open, so expect traffic control and check QLDTraffic.
- There is no mobile phone coverage near the falls, and heavy rain can flood the creeks along the road.
Open all year, weather permitting. Roads close for snow, fire, storms and repairs: before you set off, check QLDTraffic.
