Riding Mountain: Highway 10
Riding Mountain, Manitoba · Onanole → North gate
The drive
Highway 10 is the main route through Riding Mountain National Park. This drive starts at Onanole, enters the park at the south gate, passes Wasagaming on Clear Lake and leaves at the north gate toward Dauphin: 34.4 miles in all, with mostly gentle curves.
Wasagaming is the park's south entrance and its only commercial centre, designated as the townsite when the park opened in 1933. Clear Lake gets its water from underground springs. The park sits on Riding Mountain, which rises more than 457 meters above the surrounding Manitoba farmland, so the north end of the drive climbs and descends the escarpment. The park has one of North America's largest black bear populations, along with elk, moose, wolves, cougars and lynx.
