Lost Trail Pass: US-93
US 93, Nez Perce National Historic Trail · Darby → Lost Trail Pass
The drive
US 93 runs south from Darby up the Bitterroot Valley, narrowing past Sula, then winds through forest to Lost Trail Pass at 7,014 feet on the Idaho line. The valley half is gentle; the last miles, about 26 to 29, are the twisty part.
The pass is about half a mile west of the Continental Divide. Lost Trail Powder Mountain ski area is on the pass, and a visitor center there is open in summer. The drive ends at the pass, 30.1 miles and about 35 minutes from Darby; US 93 goes on into Idaho and Salmon. Lewis and Clark's expedition was the first to travel the corridor between Lost Trail Pass and Lolo, in 1805.
