The drive
Kamehameha Highway, Route 83, is named for King Kamehameha I and informally called Kam Highway. From Kahaluʻu it follows the windward coast, then passes through Lāʻie and on to the North Shore, where it runs by Sunset Beach and through Haleʻiwa.
A bypass, the Joseph P. Leong Highway, has carried Route 83 traffic around Haleʻiwa since 1995. This drive goes into the town itself.
