The drive

Highway 56 runs north from the Trans-Canada at Indian Head into the Qu'Appelle Valley and along the Fishing Lakes. It follows the eastern shore of Katepwa Lake, passes through Lebret on Mission Lake and Fort Qu'Appelle, and runs along the northern shores of Mission and Echo lakes to Echo Valley Provincial Park, 30.8 miles in all.

Lebret grew from a Catholic mission established in 1866, and Stations of the Cross and a small chapel shrine on the hill over the village, built in 1929, are a local landmark. Sacred Heart Church there is a fieldstone church built in 1925. Echo Valley Provincial Park, where the drive ends, lies between Echo Lake and Pasqua Lake and has beaches, campgrounds and a 3 km trail.
