The drive
Vermont Route 100 runs the length of Vermont, and this 21.1-mile piece goes north from Hancock to Waitsfield in about 30 minutes. It starts in Granville Gulf Reservation, a 1,171-acre state reservation on either side of a six-mile stretch of Route 100, then enters the Mad River Valley and passes through Warren.
Moss Glen Falls is the stop in the gulf: an 80-foot waterfall reached by a short walk off Route 100. The reservation also protects a 20-acre old-growth stand of red spruce and hemlock. Former governor Redfield Proctor Jr. donated the first 900 acres to the state in 1928.
Route 100 runs along the eastern edge of the Green Mountain National Forest for much of its length. Warren and Waitsfield are resort towns in the valley.
