Drives Michigan Michigan's Lower Peninsula
Tunnel of Trees: M-119
M 119, Lake Shore Drive, West Bluff Drive · Harbor Springs → Cross Village
The drive
This is M-119, the Tunnel of Trees Scenic Heritage Route, running north from Harbor Springs along the Lake Michigan shoreline to Cross Village. The road winds through oaks, maples, birches and cedars along an old Ottawa trail. Lake Michigan shows only in glimpses through the trees. It is 19.8 miles and takes about 42 minutes.
The road narrows and has no centerline for most of this stretch, and MDOT says that M-119 is not a road for those in a hurry. Good Hart lies along the way. State maintenance ends at Cross Village, and the road beyond is gravel, so the drive stops there.
