The drive

State Route 112, the Strait of Juan de Fuca Highway, runs west along the northern edge of the Olympic Peninsula. This drive starts at Joyce and follows the shoreline through forest, past Salt Creek Recreation Area and the towns of Clallam Bay and Sekiu, to Neah Bay on the Makah Reservation, where Highway 112 ends. The road is a national scenic byway, designated in 2000.

The strait is on your right the whole way, with Vancouver Island across the water on clear days. The road is mostly gentle with two twistier stretches, and it is the kind of drive where the shoreline and the forest trade places every few miles.

It is 53.7 miles and takes about 1 hour 25 minutes. Past Neah Bay the road continues to Cape Flattery, the northwest corner of the continental US, but that stretch is not part of this route.
