Drives Washington Mount Rainier and the South Cascades
Stevens Canyon Road
WA 123 · Ohanapecosh → Paradise
The drive
Stevens Canyon Road is the south side of Mount Rainier National Park. It starts on Highway 123 at Ohanapecosh, in forest at the park's southeast corner, and climbs west and uphill for 22.7 miles to the Paradise road, gaining about 5,100 feet to a high point near 5,400.
The road passes the slot of Box Canyon, then runs along the canyon wall below the Tatoosh Range and comes out at Reflection Lakes, where the mountain stands over the water on a still day. It ends on Paradise Road short of the Paradise parking. The curves come in three twisty stretches, near the start and in the last five miles, with moderate bends between.
Because it's a park road that closes every winter, the season is short. Plan it for summer or early fall.
