The drive

This drive starts near Batsto Village on County Route 542 in Wharton State Forest, in the south-central Pine Barrens. Batsto has more than forty sites and structures, including a mansion, sawmill, gristmill and general store. Joseph Wharton bought it in 1876 and developed cranberry farming and forestry there.

The drive goes along County Route 542 to Green Bank, then north on County Route 563 to Chatsworth. The Pinelands cover about 1.1 million acres of dense forest, with miles of cranberry bogs and blueberry fields.
