The drive

Mossman-Mount Molloy Road, the Rex Range road, climbs 28 km (17 mi) from the Captain Cook Highway near Mossman up the Great Dividing Range, through Julatten, to Mount Molloy on the Mulligan Highway. It starts with tight bends up the range.

The Rex Range road opened in 1949 and was sealed with bitumen in 1982. When it has been closed at night for works, Transport and Main Roads has pointed drivers to the Kuranda Range Road and Kennedy Highway as the detour.

Transport and Main Roads has noted that the tight corners on the Rex Range are hard going for heavy vehicles. The range roads in the area are prone to storm damage and repair works.
