Drives New Mexico Santa Fe, Taos and Northern New Mexico
Hyde Park Road
NM 475 · Santa Fe → Ski Santa Fe
The drive
Hyde Park Road climbs from Santa Fe to the Ski Santa Fe basin on NM 475. It begins as Artist Road, which becomes Hyde Park Road and then Highway 475, and ends at a dead end at the ski basin. Ski Santa Fe puts the basin 16 miles from Santa Fe.
Hyde Memorial State Park sits along Little Tesuque Creek, at elevations from 8,300 to 9,400 feet. Higher up, the road runs through a giant aspen forest that the Forest Service calls one of the most popular fall color drives in northern New Mexico.
Peak color usually arrives in early October, though aspens drop their leaves soon after peaking, so local reports help. Because the road ends at the ski area, the way back is the same road.
